Introduction

Japan is a steep mountainous group of islands, so it shouldn't be surprising that there is some excellent rock climbing areas throughout the country. Climbing walls and gyms can be found in all metropolitan areas and often in rural areas as well.  Click on the prefecture below for climbing areas and indoor facilities.  Note that places come and go and info can change, so please let us know if you find anything that needs to be updated or new places should be added.
